Why I think Democracy will prevail

When Citizens United won, it cast a doubt in my mind whether USA will sustain its individuality as the billionaires came out of the wood work and started thumping their chests stating that they alone matter and the ugly wealth they had accumulated was going to be put to use to effectively drown the voice of the commoner. Looking back a day before this historic election, the mental turmoil under gone by the unemployed, the single mother working two or more jobs, the women whose rights were threatened whether it was equal pay or to have their own decision making capacity when it came to their body, the undocumented immigrants and their children whose future is at stake, the return of don't ask, don't tell policy in our armed forces, the hike in tuition fees for the students which would dissuade them from pursuing their education, the uninsured poor whose very existence depends upon the expansion of the Medicaid program, the threat to Medicare by the introduction of the voucher system leading to increase in expenses for the senior citizens and the agony of the poor and middle class who will see their dreams evaporate have awakened the soul of the country and pushed back vehemently what was once thought of a death sentence imposed on the commoner for the benefit of the rich and powerful.
Hearing the Governor of Mississippi Haley Barbour stating Sandy has benefited President Obama and has nothing to show for all the money that was thrown to destroy the democrats- be it the President, Senators S Brown of Ohio, Chris Murphy of Connecticut, Tester of Montana, the battle ground States where the President has a lead in most gives me a pause and strengthens my belief that tough times don't last, but tough people do.
Coming to realize that the wound this country suffered is slowly but surely starting to heal with the sustained news of 5.5 million job growth in total since the free fall in 2008, the increase in consumer confidence to an all time high since 2007, the return of those who stopped searching for jobs but beginning to enroll, the increased participation of 46 States in the race to top in Education which has begin to improve the quality of Education, knowing very well that under very difficult circumstances when the opposition denied to be a participant for the well being of this nation, it still kept moving forward, has given hope this country could believe in.
The results of this election will prove whether my understanding has clarity or whether I should go back to the drawing board to make sense of why I felt the way I did. I am optimistic though!.
