Poor don't remain poor because of lack of resources but due to acceptance of the situation as destined. Anyone who creates a want in his/her mind will develop a dream and will soon realize that to realize the dream one has to pay a price- hard work, perseverance, and accepting failures along the way but getting up and continuing to move forward- till one finds the pasture. I personally believe, it is a choice as chance is like waiting to win a lottery. The success is better when one makes it a choice than the chance one expects. Choice is within his control and chance is waiting for Mother Luck to bless.
Poor are handicapped at birth but to encourage the sick role is also wrong. If money is the parameter to judge one's richness, then many are poor but the poor will be blessed with the opportunities where one's life experiences will be richer as the struggle to overcome the hurdles in reaching the top of the mountain will teach them to become wiser and lead to fulfillment. The rich who are blessed not to experience the hardships will be poorer if they do not realize the value attached to one's life.
One can be poor but with all other blessings like two parent home, caring and loving upbringing except in monetary terms, he or she is in a better position to break the cycle of poverty. There are others who have been exposed to worse situations like coming from a broken home, addicted parents if they exist, neighborhoods where life expectancy is not more than 30 years due to gang violence, and nothing normal(whatever normal is supposed to be) in their lives as they know no better because they were forced to experience a lifestyle not of their choosing. Hence to conclude and equate that all poor should have the same quest is also wrong. If one can accept my thoughts as understandable, then all of us also have a role to play in reaching out to the helpless and making their lives better. Is it too much of an asking?
