Connecticut Shooting- as seen in the rear view mirror

As the dust settled, twenty innocent young lives had been laid to rest. Parents of those children see the empty beds where their children slept, recall every moment of their happiness with the ones who until their last breath gave them what their successes and achievements failed to bring. The morning of the last day in school and in this world made the parents of those children feel special, as the children were the gift of God and felt blessed. As the children's lives were sucked out by the bullets that were showered by the man made weapons, the hopes and dreams came crashing down and wiped away the very purpose of their parents lives.

The world reacted with shock and disbelief. Anyone with a heart shed tears as they watched the innocent faces on their television sets. The President of USA was no exception. He faced the Nation with a heavy heart and promised to use his office to its fullest extent to prevent and reduce the mayhems. The Nation grieved.

Mayors of towns and cities made efforts to buy back guns on the streets and their efforts were lauded by the cable networks and News media. At the very moment, gun sales exceeded to the extent that their manufacturers had to inform their distributors of a waiting period of at least six months. The orders were for the assault weapons, one such that was used to silence the victims for no fault of theirs.

The only and age old argument that guns don't kill people begin to surface. The NRA President boldly advised the Nation to bring in more guns and keep an armed escort in every school in the USA. He failed to acknowledge that the gun owner, the shooter's mother was the first victim and the guns she owned failed to protect her. No study would make a believer of the second amendment understand or accept that most homicides and suicides happen in the homes of those who own the guns. The NRA succeeded in in defining what the second amendment meant and not what it really means based on the constitution.

The Legislators in Congress, don't fear the people who elected them. They worry not about their constituents wellbeing but about their re election. They fear not the population but an Organization that is very vocal and has the money power to make or break them. It is all about their own survival in a dog eat dog world. Even when one of their own was shot in the head, it didn't bring a change of heart. Values and principles are for the common man.

As days went by, people began to focus on their lives. The flags that flew at half mast were raised back and the Congress started to debate of how best they could regress faster and bring this Great Nation to peril. The Republicans have begun to make an argument that it is not fair to burden their children and grand children with the country's debt, knowing fully well that the future generation might not live to see the day light as this country takes hold of the gun culture in the name of second amendment. Why should one care for those who live. It is their fault.
