Is it OK for some one, what ever the circumstances might be, to take some one's life. I am OK with guns being sold- but not because it is the right as our second amendment gives us to use it as an argument which could have been the situation then but we have moved centuries away and I don't wish everyone to see it differently only when some calamity strikes their family . I hope common sense prevails. The law helps to prevent harm from only those individuals who have been identified to be disturbed. The law fails when the process to carry out the law is hindered when clearance is given at short notice-1 to 3 days- A time period that might or might not be sufficient to clear an individual to purchase guns . The Federal and State data first has to be updated on a very regular basis, at almost on a every day basis- to raise any red flag. The time period I am advocating for an extended period is to dissuade the disturbed individual who is not in the system and who has become disturbed for the first time to overcome his anger or gripe with the society or give hints or clues to people with whom he associates that can be useful to prevent any catastrophe. As any person who decides to take his own life succeeds mostly if he attempts in the first hour once he develops the thought and the chances of completing becomes less and less as time goes by beyond the first hour, the person who wants to act out will for the most part develop self doubt and might abandon his plan to carry out. Still we will find situations where such actions by the disturbed individuals are carried out but we will have less of them and we in the society don't have to accept them as a norm. No one has to give up liberty if there is trust and the constitution does not have any meaning to begin with if there is no trust on those who wrote it. Government is for the people and to look at it as though it is there to destroy individual liberties is a paranoid reaction to a particular belief/perception as the same individuals want the Government to provide the needs to make their lives better. It is of the people, being formed by the elected members of the society on whom we put our faith and trust and any deviation from the path to well being, the electorate has the right to throw them out. We have seen good things come out of the Government through the amendments made to the constitution. We have moved from considering blacks as not being citizens to half citizens to second class citizens to getting their full citizenship status. We have seen Women being accepted as equal citizens and get their voting rights. We have seen the blacks and whites fighting together to defend our country after being segregated even when they sacrificed their lives for a common cause. We have seen the Board of Education ruling remove the segregation status in letting the education provided be equal to all children and no two children of color or ethnicity should be at a disadvantaged position; the women got their equal pay status by the stroke of a pen and it took a long time for many Presidents to ignore or avoid it until someone came along. We look upon the Government to make us feel safe in our communities, provide the infrastructure to let our businesses thrive, defend this nation from outside threats and create opportunities to make the playing field equal for those who long to achieve the American dream but are handicapped from the day they were born for no fault of theirs through education, health care and to help grow the economy. We want them when a calamity strikes, man made or natures wrath, we want them to let us settle our differences through the court system and take pride when our country is respected and looked upon by the entire world. All this was made possible by the Government. So let us take a step back and examine how to make sense than just say NO!
